Ok so another fun and informative post about winter weddings and indoor venues! This has been our year of pushing the envelope. Grand Central is my all time favorite place to shoot, esp in the winter. It is one of the grandest public spaces that exist in NYC. We had a very quiet private spot with a gorgeous vintage train table as a backdrop up until last year, when construction on a new tunnel started. We all mourned the loss of this space for quite some time. I started going to GCT every chance I could get to scoure every inch of the station for something, anything, a secret passage, hidden rooms you name it! My husband fancys himself an urban explorer who used to climb bridges at nite and break into abandoned hospitals on randalls island in NYC (thats a whole other story)so he was also up for the adventure.
There was one spot that was PERFECT! But there was one thing in the way...Micheal Jordons Steakhouse! They occupied the space from which to access this magical totally private balcony (which by the way kicks ass and it much nicer than our old spot) so i spoke with the manager, i spoke to corporate. i looked for other ways to sneak in...nothing! Then came this fall, Micheal Jordan's steakhouse SHUT DOWN! and guess what i DID find that secret door to the balcony...and guess what we have now done about half a dozen weddings there and it is AMAZING. Is it trespassing...yes. But is is your wedding day so chances are we no-one is gonna stop us 🙂 my motto is ask forgiveness not permission
ok! and for act 2, well we did not have a "set" place to take photos at afterwards. Kate and Jarred were just so sweet and chill and were like "whatever you think is best" During their vows kate quoted this classic line from When Harry Met Sally
"I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."
So after the ceremony we hopped in a cab to the LES to the one and only Katz's Delicatessen. Totally spontaneous and totally fun!
